NETHERTON NOTES.

[From Our Own Correspondent]

On Friday evening, sth inst., a very pleasant social evening was passed in the hall. The function was arranged by Mrs Adamson (senr.), Mrs Stock, and Miss Adolph, for the benefit of the hall funds, and was most successful in every way. Dancing was carried on throughout the evening, Mr Frank Rae as M.C. keeping the dancers active to the music of violin (Mr Adolph) and piano (Miss Adolph,) Mrs Murray and Mrs Mackay playing extras.

A euchre tournament, conducted by

Mr M. Douglas, was well patronised, six, tables being filled. Mrs R. Stock won the first prize allotted for ladies, a bridle presented by Mr Fielder, of Paeroa. The gentlemen's first prize, a pair of dancing " pumps " presented by Mr H. O. Searfe, fell to Mr E. Thompson. Mrs Adamson and Mr H. Housler also won prizes. A driving competition was also held for ladies and gentlemen, the first prize, a lady's. hand bag presented by Mr Cullen, and a case of electroplate presented by Messrs J. Hague Smith and Co., of Paeroa, being won by Mrs and Mr Mackay respectively, Mrs M. Morrison and Mr W. Adolph winning second prizes, a bottle ot scent and a box of chocolates. Mr E. I-L Mackay distributed the prizes,'and moved votes of thanks to the promoters of the entertainment, and io those who assisted by superintending part of the fun and contributing songs, dance music, and the good things dispensed to the company at supper time. These votes we're carried with heartiness and unanimity. Mrs Stock has started a movement for the establishment of a hockey club in Netherton, and the game should be in full swing in the course of a week or two, as some game in which, young peeple of both sexes can join is very necessary in a small district like this It is expected that quite a goodly number of names will be. handed in at the meeting on the 13th.
