DRAIN NUISANCE.
[To the Editor.]
Sir—Now that we have in our midst typhoid fever, those in authority should take steps to see to the condition of the unsightly drains in various parts in Paeroa. One in particular is situated in Princes Street. The drains from houses
empty themselves into the street, and there remain stagnant, not being able to get away owing to the culverts (two in number) being inches higher than the bottom of the drain. Every time the County workmen clean this drain out leaves it worse, and consequently the water remains stagnant, causing an abominable stench to arise. Of course, I know it is a hard matter to overcome this difficulty, but why not compel the owners of the houses to have the drains empty themselves into the river, thus doing away with this nuisance. Trusting, Mr Editor, you will insert this, I am, etc., Resident.
