THE FOREIGN ELEMENT.
[By Electric Telegraph.]
London, May 5
Mr Hamilton Wicks, British Trade
Commissioner tor Australia, explained to the Manchester Importers and Exporters' Association the salient features ot foreign competition in Australia.
Mr Langdon, a merchant, remarked
that Australia was penalising a large trade by excluding preference to British goods because the finishing process was added abroad. Mr Bythell stated that if Australian cargoes were obtainable, there would be no difficulty in getting the Shire liners to sail from Australia to Manchester direct.
