CHAMPION SCULLER.
PEARCE SEEKS THE TITI,E.
A MERITORIOUS WIN.
AFTER MATCH WITH ARNST
[By Electric Telegraph.]
Sydney, April 23
The sculling race lor the championship of Australia between Pearce and Kemp was rowed on the Parramatta River yesterday. Pearce made a couple of false starts, and was apparently over anxious. Finally a good start was affected, both rowing forty. It was a hard race to the three-quarter mile flag, where Pearce was leading by a length. Then his weight and superior skill told, and he increased his lead, and was never afterwards troubled.
The judge's verdict made it a win by twenty lengths. Time, 20 mins. 45 sees.
The Sun says that Pearce is now up to the world's championship torm, and he should get a chance of tackling Arnst without delay.
Arnst, who is aboard the steamer Ulimaroa, was wirelessly interviewed. He said he would meet Pearce in ten weeks for aside.
Pearce says this will suit him. He thinks he can now get the backing.
