Mr Charles Rhodes, of Auckland, was on a short visit to Paeroa yesterday.
Some person to take charge of two little children in Paeroa is advertised for.

' Members ot the Star of Paeroa Lodge of Druids should note that the meeting next week will be held on Tuesday evening, 25th inst.
Services at the Paeroa Methodist Church on Sunday morning and evening will be conducted by the Rev. G. Pittendreigh.
Notice is given that the technical dressmaking classes conducted by Mrs King will be held in the Paeroa Hotel each Thursday evening from seven to nine o'clock.
Mr J. Black, returning officer, has a notification in this issue declaring Mr S. J. Laughlin elected to the position of representative of Ohinemuri County on the Thames Harbour Board.
Notwithstanding the stormy weather, there was a fair attendance at the Criterion Theatre on Wednesday evening, when an entertainment was given by the Colonial Picture Company. Another performance will be given by the company to-morrow evening.
Official figures have been published to show that in 20 years the Westralian goldfields have paid 21 million in dividends. The Great Boulder Proprietary heads the list with dividends amounting to 1 3,431,800.
One hundred and forty-eight pounds makes a liberal total for the 49 prizes offered this year by the proprietors ot Tonkmg's linseed emulsion, particulars of which will be found in another column. The competitions are attractive and do not appear to be unduly difficult. Some of our readers should be among the prize winners. Then there is the public prize. A Waihi correspondent writes:— " Amongst the visitors to the Waihi Beach was Rev. Dean Hackett, ot Paeroa, who had a party of sisters and children from the convent school under his charge. The Dean spoke in glowing terms of the beach and its vicinity, but deplored the limited area at the disposal of visitors for camping."
A German paper gives an account ot sawdust bread. Works in Berlin are producing about 200 quintals of " wood bread" per clay. This cattle food is made by submitting the sawdust to several chemical processes after it has been fermented, and then mixing it with rye flour in the proportion of two parts to one of flour, and is baked in the same way as ordinary bread. The nroduct is used for feeding horses, but it is said that it could serve as human food in famines.
