ONLY A FACTOR

ATOMIC BOMB IN WARFARE MORE EFFICIENT WEAPONS AVAILABLE Rec. 9 p.m. .NEW YORK,* Dec. 9. In the event’ of another war, weapons which appear to be more efficient and cheaper than the atomic bomb would be used, said General George Kenney, Chief of the Strategic Air Command, addressing the Michigan Post of the Army Ordnance Association at Detroit to-night. General Kenney said that the atomic bomb would be a factor, but there were plenty of other weapons more efficient and easier to produce in quantity. General Kenney, describing the air force’s present bombs and guns as obsolete, said: “ In the armament field it looks as though we have to start all over again. Our bombs are all obsolete for the new high-speed aircraft and our present bomb shapes are so poor aerodynamically that no one knows where they would hit if released at modern speeds. They would simply tumble all over the sky, shedding fins and possibly detonating themselves by the violence of their own gyrations if dropped from an aircraft at a speed of about 600 miles an hour. , , ~ General Kenney added that the rate of fire of an aircraft’s guns must be doubled, and the range for radar greatly increased.
