RESTORATION OF FREEDOMS LEADER PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN TREASON TRIAL Rec. 10.30 p.m. WARSAW, Dec. 10. Walter Lipinski pleaded not guilty in the Warsaw treason and espionage trial yesterday. He is one of six alleged underground leaders who are being tried at the same time as Maria Marinowska, a former British Embassy employee. Lipinski admitted that he was a member of a “ National Independence Party,” which consisted of himself and two others He drafted a memorandum to the United Nations last year to draw the world’s attention to the Polish situation. His party was secret because there was no political freedom in Poland, and because it was impossible to carry on a legal opposition party. His party aimed at restoring the citizens’ freedoms. The British United Press correspondent in Warsaw says that Lipinski is believed to be the first defendant in a Polish military court since the end of the war to plead not guilty. Usually people accused have, after long imprisonment. admitted their guilt either wholly or partially. The Warsaw police have arrested Countess Janina Czarnecka, Polish interpreter at the Swedish Legation, also a Pole, Madame Helena Abamowicz. of the Belgian Legation staff.
