WEST OTAGO
Sir,—As an appreciative reader of the Daily Times for over 50 years, I take the liberty of offering some advice, which may savour of criticism. I know the district between Gore and Tapanui, and Gore and Waikaia, and know that your paper has had an influence on the social and intellectual life of the people there. Last week the annual A. and P. Society’s show was held at Gore, and when I opened the Daily Times on Thursday I found a very brief report, which must have been disappointing to many besides myself. The bulk of the report dealt with Otago successes at the show. The gathering and display was described by a Dunedin visitor, well qualified to judge, as exceptional and inspiring. If you would bear in mind that Gore district news is of importance to a large section of your readers, the usefulness and popularity of your paper will be increased. I would also suggest that those of your citizens who are trying to advance Dunedin interests should remember that Dunedin is an important part of Otago and Southland, but that it is unwise to assume that the localities mentioned are merely a background to Dunedin.—l am. etc., West Otago.
