ADDINGTON SALE
DECREASE IN PRICES P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 10. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 1594, including 540 hoggets, 342 wethers, 239 dry ewes, and 473 ewes and iambs. The demand was not as strong as at recent sales, and all classes were easier. A number of good-quality Marlborough lines were included, and these sold well. The hogget offering was of indifferent quality, and the interest was slacker, values being up to 2s lower. Best made 32s 3d to 365, good 28s 3d to 31s, while medium and inferior were down to 25s 6d. Three lines of dry ewes from Marlborough were offered and made 33s to 355. The best of the ewes and lambs, a line from Blenheim, made 28s 3d, and others 22s 3d and 24s 3d. Ewes were down about Is. Adult wethers were cheaper by Is. Best made 30s to 33s Bd, and a line of Marlborough Merinos made 10s 3d. The fat lamb yarding was 2195 of medium quality. Trade and export buyers bid freely throughout at rates, except in a few cases, 2d to 3d higher than schedule. Values:—Extra prime fat lambs, to 54s Id; prime, 43s to 475; good, 35s to 425; medium. 31s to 345: light. 28s to 30s. The fat sheep entry was 6000 of good quality, the competition being steady throughout at values practically unchanged on last week. Exporters had to pay prices in excess of schedule. Values: — Ex'tra prime heavy wethers, to 62s Id; prime heavy wethers, 48s to 525; prime medium-weight, 41s to 475; ordinary and light, 33s to 40s; extra prime hoggets, to 56s 7d; prime, 38s to 435; medium and light, • 32s to 375; prime heavy ewes, to 44s Id; prime, 34s to 38s; medium, 29s to 335; ordinary an’d light, 20s to 28s The fat catle entry of 596 was of good quality generally, but the sale was slow with butchers showing a marked preference for best class of beef only. Heavyweight steers were £1 cheaper than last week but best medium-weights were not as badly affected. Best beef made to 62s 6d, good 42s 6d to 52s 6d and medium 36s to 40s Best cow made to 50s and secondary to 37s 6d. Values: —Extra prime heavy steers, to £26 2s 6d; prime, £22 to £24; prime medium-weight, £lB to £22; ordinary, £l3 to £l6. Extra prime heifers, to £2O 7s 6d; prime. £ll to £ls; ordinary and light, £8 to £lO 10s. Extra prime cows, to £l9 17s 6d; prime, £9 to £l2: ordinary and light, £6 to £B. The porker yarding was again heavy and bidding was restricted, with lightweights showing little change in value, but heavier sorts were 3s to 4s a head easier. The chopper entry was big, but values were on a par with last week In a large baconer offering competition was slow.
