SUMMER SHOW

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY HIGH STANDARD MAINTAINED The summer show of the Dunedin Horticultural Society, held yesterday evening in the Y.M.C.A. Assembly Hall maintained the standard achieved in former years. Some fine exhibits were entered in the flower sections and there was one really outstanding exhibit, that of a basket of Christmas and arum lilies, which was shown by Mrs O. N. Rutherford.. ■ In the evening Mr J. Fitzgerald, a vice-president of the society, gave a talk on “Cultivation of Vegetables to a large attendance of members. The president, Mr H. S. Hungerford, was in the chair. List Of Prize-Winners ' In the section for roses, judged by Mr C. A. Teschner, the amateur championship was &on by A. G. Richardson, who also exhibited the premier rose. He obtained, in addition, five firsts. Other prize-winners were: —J. J. Gray, one first; Mrs C. H. Grant, one first and two seconds; Miss L. Menzies, one first. , The cut flowers were also judged by Mr Teschner. Mrs O. N. Rutherford showed the premier pansy, winning in addition five firsts and one second. F. Davis collected three firsts and two seconds; A. H. Erridge, three firsts and one second; D. Hannah, three firsts; E. A. .Hamel, two firsts and two seconds; J. Fleming, two firsts; Mrs Grant, one first and one second- Miss L. Menzies. two firsts; S. J. Webb, one first , ~ Mrs W. Jones, who judged the decorative section, placed the entry of Macandrew Bay first in the competition for women’s institutes. Green Island was second. Miss E. Curline won six firsts and one second in this section, Mrs R. H. Finlay three firsts and three seconds, and Mrs Rutherford one first and one second. The amateur championship in the vegetable section, which was judged by Mr Fitzgerald, was won by Mrs V. M. Dickinson. This championship was for a collection of six varieties of vegetables. Other winning vegetable exhibitors were:—J. Ironside, 4 firsts and 1 second; J. Fleming, 2 firsts and 1 second; and Mrs Grant, .1 first.
