LEGISLATION SUPPORTED

A.motion supporting the legislation for the compulsory letting of houses was carried by the Dunedin branch of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association at its fortnightly meeting. It was stated! “ That in view of the recent press controversy on the legislation for the compulsory letting of vacant houses, the Dunedin branch of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association reaffirms the resolution passed by the Dominion conference requesting such a Bill. The Dunedin branch pledges itself to support our local body in the operation of the provisions of the Bill" The secretary of the association, Mf J. P. Innes, told the Daily Times yesterday that the organisation had collected a list of at least 10 vacant houses in Dunedin. Mr. Innes added that he had also a list of families living in Dunedin in conditions which could only be described as appalling.
