OAMARU PRESBYTERY
New Moderator Appointed The moderator, the Rev. G. D. Falloon, presided at a meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery yesterday. Elders' commissions were received and sustained in favour of Messrs J. H. McLatchie. G. Russell, and J. H. Chapman. It was agreed that the moderator be appointed each December in future, and accordingly the Rev. Alexander Marshall was appointed for the ensuing year. A tentative itinerary for the visit on February 15, when the centennial appeal will be made for the new Theological Hall in Dunedin, was approved. The visitors will be Professor Allan, Duntroon and Kurow; Dr Salmond, Palmerston, Kakanui, and Hampden; Dr Henderson, Totara and Columba; the Rev. H. H. Rex, Eveline. Enfield and Ngapara; Professor Knight, St. Paul's, Lower Waitaki and Weston.
It was decided to support the applications to synod for ordinary grants by Otepopo, maintenance of church; Enfield, maintenance of church and manse; Ngapara, maintenance of church. A minute of appreciation of the work of the Rev. G. D. Falloon during the past seven years was recorded. Eveline Vacancy
It was reported that the Very Rev. G. H. Jupp would retire at the end of the year, and Ihe presbytery would find difficulty in filling the vacancy. Mr Rothwell said the only solution would be to appoint an assistant minister to St. Paul’s, and he would be the minister at Eveline until it could support itself. It was agreed to make an application to the Maintenance of the Ministry Committee for an annual grant of £IOO in order to make possible the appointment of an assistant minister. It was also decided to apply to synod for a grant to assist in the building of a manse at Eveline.
