OBITUARY

MR A. A. RESTIEAUX The death occurred suddenly yesterday at Dunedin of Mr Augustus Alfred Restieaux, who was in business in the city for" many years as a bootmaker. Mr Restieaux was well, known in Dunedin both as an Otago representative footballer and as a cricketer. One of the original members of the Alhambra Football Club,, Mr Restieaux represented; Otago in 1889 and 1890. £ He was one of the first exponents -of the five-eighths game, and was particularly noted as a goal-kicker and drop-kick exponent. , ■ ~ Mr Restieaux played cricket for the Grange Club. He retained® his interest in the game right up to the time of his death, and was a spectator at games at Carisbrook this season. Mr Restieaux was also a cricket umpire and Rugby referee for many years. MR L. R. PHILLIPPS P A AUCKLAND, Dec. 8. Mr Leonard R. Phillipps, of Helensville, who was closely associated with farming interests in the Auckland district in the early part of the century, and who was member of Parliament for Waitemata for one session,; died to-day, aged 77., Mr .Phillipps was one of the most ardent leaders of the'campaign against the Land Bill of that year, and in 1908 he was elected as Reform Party member for Waitertiata. After one session, Mr Phillipps retired from politics, and subsequently from all public life.
