Prize-giving Ceremonies in Dunedin.
SCHOLASTIC AWARDS
The end-of-year prize-giving ceremonies were held at the various secondary schools in Dunedin yesterday, when the schools closed in accordance with the precautions being taken against the spread of infantile paralysis.
Before pupils at the Otago Boys’ High School were dismissed, the retiring rector, Mr H. P. Kidson, presented prizes won during the year. The Board of Governors was represented at this function by Professor T. D. Adams, Mr. J, C. H. Somerville, and the secretary, Mr. C. J. Martin. At the King's High School, prizes were presented by the retiring rector, Mr D. S. Chisholm, and an informal prize-giving ceremony was also held at the Otago Girls’ High School. Mrs D. G. McMillan, Miss L. Morton, and Mr G. Stratton represented the board at the Girls’ High School function, at which Mrs John Henderson presented the prizes, and the chairman, Mr W. R. Brugh, was present at the King’s High School. Columba College, St. Hilda’s College, St. Dominic’s College, and John McGlashan College all closed yesterday, and in each case prize-giving ceremonies were held. At John McGlashan, the speakers were the chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr A. C. Cameron, the principal, Mr J. Conolly, and Mr H. A. Mitchell, a member of the Board of Governors. The prizes were presented by Mrs Conolly. The Christian Brothers’ High School annual - concert and prize-giving ceremony was to have been held to-morrow night, but the function has been cancelled and will be held early in the New Year.
