AMERICA SENDS FOOD TO EUROPE
■yyith the object of creating added interest in the various schemes for sending food to needy Europe a “ Friendly Train ” was recently despatched from Hollywood across the continent. At each stop food parcels were collected and loaded into the decorated wagons. The 6000-ton cargo of food gathered across the United States was shipped
from New York to Le Havre on Sunday as the first friendship train shipment abroad. The cargo is from a stock pile of 385 freight carloads of foodstuffs—26s carloads more than were expected. It is expected to furnish three further shiploads, of which one will go to Italy and another to France. The photograph shows parcels being loaded on the train during its journey across the continent.
