SWIMMING BATHS OUT OF BOUNDS
As from yesterday children under 16 are forbidden to use swimming baths. No time was wasted by the local civic authoritieS»in enforcing the prohibition against children under 16 congregating in confined spaces, and as soon as advice of the prohibition was received by the members of the Municipal Baths’ staff the ban was put into effect without delay.
The president of the Otago Swimming Centre, Mr D. F. Watson, informed the Daily Times that because of the restrictions, the junior and intermediate swimming and diving championships, which were to have been held this week, in conjunction with the senior meeting, had been postponed, but the senior meeting would be held to-night and to-morrow night as arranged. It was hoped to stage the intermediate and Junior championships later in the season, according to when the restrictions were lifted. Mr Watson continued. No information had yet been received whether the. New Zealand intermediate and junior championships at Stratford would be held. The various swimming clubs will hold their .usual club hours at the Municipal Baths, but no children under 16 will be permitted to attend.
