“The early closure of schools was not unexpected by Dunedin headmasters.” Mr A. C. Notman, president of the Dunedin Headmasters’ Association, said in a statement to the Daily Times yesterday. “ There will be great 'disappointment at the cancellation of the usual end-of-year functions,” Mr Notman added, “ but headmasters, all of whom regard the health of their pupils as of paramount importance, have been very uneasy for some days.” Mr Notman said that he was of opinion that steps should be taken to ban children from attending cinemas, crowded shops, or concentrating in numbers anywhere, and to this end the co-operation of all parents was earnestly sought.
