PERSONAL
The chairman of the Aid for Britain National Council, Mr F. P. Walsh, will arrive in Dunedin to-day and will confer to-night with the Otago committee. At a meeting of directors of Kempthorne Prosser and Company yesterday afternoon, Mr A. N. Haggitt was appointed to fill the vacancy on the board arising from the death of Dr R. I. Ritchie. Group Captain D. J. Scott, formerly of Greymouth, who recently returned to England, has received from the Netherlands Government the decoration of Commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau. Group Captain Scoit already holds the D. 5.0., the D.F.C. and bar, the 0.8. E., the French Croix de Guerre and the Belgian Croix de Guerre.
Dalgety and Company have received cabled advice from London that Mr Lionel Speakman, who has been general manager of the company since the beginning of 1930, will retire from its service on December 31. Mr G. S. Hunter. London manager, who was formerly in charge of the company's business in British East Africa, has been appointed to succeed Mr Speakman as general manager as from January 1. At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Amenities Society yesterday it was decided to convey to the retiring rector of the Otago Boys’ High School, Mr H. P. Kidson, the committee’s best wishes. The chairman. Mr G. Simpson, said Mr Kidson had proved a valuable member of the committee.
