WEED CLEARANCE

Sir, —We hear a lot about cleaning up for the centennial. Why does the city not clean up its patch outside by residence? Thistles, dandelions, and couchlike grass shower their seeds into my garden. Convolvulus runs rampant, and crawls through the fence, strangling my roses and shrubs. I cannot deal with them, and have no man to help. Have I any redress?—l am, etc., Victim. [This letter was referred to the city engineer, Mr Scoular, who stated that the City Corporation was endeavouring to deal with the grass and weed problem and was working on (he laying of biumenous paving at the same time. He added that both types of work had to be done simultaneously, and the period during which paving was possible was only a short one.—Ed. O.D.T.]
