WELLINGTON’S CHOICE
SANDERS CUP BOAT FANTASY LIKELY SELECTION P.A WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. Although at the finish of the X class yachting trials on Saturday Louie (P. Hartley) was leading on points, on the outstanding performances and three wins scored by Fantasy (P. Millar) it appeared that Fantasy was certain to be Wellington’s Sanders Cup representative this year. Millar has won every race he has sailed, but he was disqualified in the second trial as he mistook a course mark. He was unable to compete in the third trial because of broken gear. He has never been beaten by Hartley. Although a recommendation from the Sanders Cup Trials Committee to the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association was not officially known today, officials said that it is highly probable that Millar s boat would be chosen. An incident in the final trial in which Louie appeared to cause Fantasy to alter course when Fantasy was on her right board is under consideration by the committee and may cause Louie s disqualification, with a consequent loss of points which will give Millar an automatic lead. The Worser Bay Idlealong class boat Cavalier, skippered by C. Gestro, with three outright wins, was automatically chosen as Wellington’s representative for the Moffatt Cup, the National Idlealong Championship. Other Classes Selected With three outright wins and one second place in the Cornwall Cup trials, W. Hayman and D. McGaviston were chosen as Wellington s Z class representatives for this season. The 14-year-old Paremata yachtsman, M. Pinkney, with an 80-point lead after five races, was chosen to represent Wellington in the P class 7-footer National Championships for the Tanner Cup.
