MR CHIFLEY DEFEATED
SHIRE COUNCIL ELECTIONS Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 7. The Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, was defeated yesterday in the Abercrombie shire elections. He was the last of three candidates in the ballot for a riding which he had represented for 15 years. It was the first shire election he had contested since becoming Prime Minister. The last time he was elected unopposed. Mr Chifley will be replaced on the council by a young farmer, Mr R. J. Nightingale, who represented an organisation known as the Rockley Better Roads Association.
