MOTORIST KILLED

PLUNGE DOWN BANK DISCOVERED NEXT DAY P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 7. Pinned under the wreckage of his open car, a resident of Waitewhena died some time after the car dived over -a 10-foot bank on the Waite-whena-Ohura road late on Friday night. His failure to return home caused little anxiety until yesterday, when a search resulted in the discovery of the car hidden by fern and scrub at the bottom of a sheer bank. The dead man was Ronald James Smith, aged 38, a bulldozer mechanic employed at the Waitewhena State coal, mines. He leaves his wife and four’ young children. When he did not return home it was thought that he had decided to stay overnight with friends at Ohura. It was not until he failed to return on the following night that the alarm was raised. His death was thought to have occurred within half an hour of the accident.
