SUPERIOR TEAMWORK

WALLABIES BEAT IRELAND Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 6. The Australian Rugby Union team beat Ireland 16-3 on a soft ground at Dublin to-day.

Ireland opened the score and then Allen and Reid fell on the ball together. The crowd booed the referee when he awarded Australia a try. Piper’s kick failed. Allen and Howell later sent Windon over for a try and Piper again missed. Burke added another try after a, good Australian passing rush. McMaster converted.

Australia, helped by the wind, soon threatened in the second half. Kearney and Tweedale were held up by inches short of the line. Ireland at this stage was doing rfearly all the defending. Forward exchanges were terrifically hard and Ireland tried kick-and-follow tactics but could not beat the smartly covering Australian defence. Much of the life now seemed to go out of the game and the crowd began to leave the ground. Tonkin, just before time, scored a try, Alien converting. Australia won by superior teamwork.
