MEDALS ARRIVE

MORE THAN 100 MISSING CHILDREN’S SOUVENIRS The centennial medals which will be distributed free of charge to all school children in Otago arrived in Dunedin yesterday. Exactly ( the size of: half-crowns, they , are made of bronze, with a'gilt finish, and are most attractive from the point of view of souvenir collectors. Of the total consignment of 25,000, packed in three cases, 104 were missing when the cases' arrived at Port Chalmers on the Norfolk. One case was split'open and three of the packets, each supposed to contain 100 medals, had burst, one being almost empty. From the appearance of the case, it is difficult to form an opinion as to whether a theft was committed or whether it was accidentally broken and the medals are now lying among the dunnage in one of the holds of the Norfolk. ‘ The medals were not the only articles to arrive at the office of the Otago Centennial Association yesterday. When a Daily Times reporter visited the office yesterday afternoon the floor was strewn with pennants of various colours while the staff checked the first consignment of 1400 to arrive from Auckland. It is expected that those firms with comparatively small orders for thq pennants will receive their supplies immediately, and that they will be on sale next week. Larger consignments are expected at an early date. >
