STOWAWAY PLACED ON PROBATION

P.A AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. Charged with stowing away on the vessel Waihemo at Sydney on October 17, Ernest Edward Baker, aged 25, an engineer, pleaded guilty before’ Mr T. H. Levien, S.M. It was stated that the vessel was going to Vancouver and Baker was discovered just before the Waihemo left Apia, Samoa, about a month after sailing from Sydney. After obtaining a report from the probation officer, th<T magistrate placed the accused on probation for 12 months and ordered restitution of the expenses incurred by the shipping company in bringing him from Apia to New Zealand.
