RECEIVING CHARGE
PILLAGED WHISKY HOTEL PROPRIETOR FINED Special to'the Daily Times . GREYMOUTH, Dec. 4.
Albert Peter Svendsen, proprietor of the Union Hotel, Westport, was fined £lO in the Magistrate’s Court and ordered to make restitution when convicted of receiving stolen goods—eight bottles of whisky, the property of Baillie and Co., valued at £B.
It was stated that when a consignment of whisky was landed from the Storm at Westport it was found that one case had been pillaged and 12 bottles had been lost. The cases were found to contain stones wrapped in an English newspaper weighing the same as the original contents. It was thought that the theft had occurred in England, but the brew number of the whisky was obtained, and twp empty whisky bottles had been traced back to Svendsen, who admitted pur?: chasing eight bottles from two seamen. , i
