CINE-PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING Mr G S. Currie presided at the annual meeting of the Otago Cine-photographic Club on Monday. Mr R. F. Riggs, in judging the Junior Challenge Cup, expressed disappointment that the general quality of the work exhibited Ty as not up to the club’s usdal high standard, and stressed the importance of members attending lectures and submitting films for criticism and advice during the year. The club’s patron, Dr A. J. Cottrell, presenting the Junior Cup to Mr W. P. Clifford for his 16m.m. colour film, “ Hounds, Hunt, and Hunting,” congratulated the winner on a fine piece of work, but agreed with the judge that the general standard could be improved, Second place was awarded to Mr B. F. Appleyard for his Bm.m. colour film, “ Jill and a Caravan,” while J. B. Thomson's “ Horses,” and Bm.m. black and white, tied with Mr W. P. Clifford’s second entry, "A Day’s Hunting with the Otago Pack” (16m.m. colour) for third place. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, D r A. J. Cottrell; president, Mr D. L. Ritchie; immediate past president, Mr G. S. Currie; vice-presidents, Messrs W. P. Clifford and J. B. Thomson; secretary, Mr D. J. Weir: assistant secretary, Miss E M. Palmer; treasurer, Mr E. J. Stent; auditor, Mr R. H. Clark; solicitor, Mr J. B. Thomson; social organiser, Mr R. Burrell; executive—Messrs. A. G. Hunt, R. Kirk and J. L. Passmore; editor Cine News, M r D. L. Ritchie; librarian and custodian, Mr C. H. Paterson. The new president, Mr D. L. Ritchie, said that centennial year would be most important In the history of the city, and, he hoped, would be a year of achievement by the club. , . A new competition cup was presented to the club by Messrs W. P. Clifford and D L. Ritchie to promote greater Interest In the improvement of the standard of films among members who had not won a competition. Mr J. L. Passmore suggested that as cine clubs in other parts of the country were taking a keen interest in the work done In Dunedin, a Dominionwide competition open to financial members of all clubs in the country should be Instituted. Mr Passmore’s offer of a trophy for this purpose was accepted.
