MR BEVIN ATTACKED

ARTICLE IN COMINFORM JOURNAL N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent V'\ LONDON, Dec. 3. A bitter attack upon Mr Ernest in the latest issue of the Cominrorm’s official journal is strongly criticised by the Daily Herald. The Cominform article, which is headed “ Bevin —Salesman of Imperialism,” described the British Foreign Secretary as “a political nonentity” and “ a lackey and ignoramus.” Among a number of other accusations it alleged that he was working in close collusion with the Conservative leaders.

The Daily Herald says: “The general charge hurled against Mr Bevin is that of promoting Imperialism. In every land where freedom of news and comment are allowed that charge is known to be fantastically untrue. Mr Bevin is Foreign Secretary of a Government which has taken the greatest steps away from Imperialism in recorded human history. Are the Cominform memories so short that they have already forgotten that last August the British Empire in India ended and two free dominions were born, and that in October Burma became a free sovereign State? “
