Mr F. J. D. Rolfe left by the through express yesterday to attend a meeting of the New Zealand Law Society in Wellington. The appointment of Mr F. R. Callaghan, M.A., to replace Dr E. Marsden On the council of the Royal Society of New Zealand was announced in the Gazette last night. Dr F. P. Worley, emeritus-professor of chemistry at Auckland University College, has been elected to honorary fellowship of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry, a distinction limited to five. The Rev. A. V. Jaquiery, assistant curate in the parish of St. Peter's, Caversham, was ordained as a priest yesterday. The ordination service in St. Paul's Cathedral was conducted by Bishop Fitchett, and Canon A. B. Pywell was the preacher. Mr W. O. Harvey, chief private secretary to the Prime Minister and clerk of the Executive Council, has resigned to enter commercial life and will leave on Christmas Eve. Mr Harvey joined the Public Trust Office in 1926 and in 1936 became one of the secretaries to the then Prime Minister, Mr M. J. Savage. He became private secretary on the retirement of Mr C. A. Jeffery two years ago and was appointed clerk of tb- Executive Council at the same time. He served m the Pacific from 1942 to 1945 ana wts ielieving chief ffirivate secretary when Mr Jeffery was recovering from a serious motor car accident suffered in the Middle East.
