ASSISTANCE FOR BRITAIN ADVICE NOT ENOUGH P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH. Dec. 4. Speaking of what was wanted in New Zealand ip order to help Britain, Mr C. H. Williams, representing the Aid for Britain National Council, at a meeting of representatives of the Taranaki committees at Stratford today said many people who wehe critical should “shut up and work.” Everywhere* in Ne\v Zealand-, Mr Williams said, everyone was telling everyone else what he should do instead of getting on with his own job and then asking the others , to, follow his example. There were people in all walks of life who, if they were not doing their jobs properly, were delaying the effort. Apart from the “ big Spivs,” who did not work at all, were all the “ little Spivs ” who “ start work half an hour late or knock off 10 minutes early.” In reply to a suggestion that the hours of work should be extended, he said that that was a question of political policy, but there was no reason why people should not work conscientiously during the hours they were supposed to work.
