“BUILDERS OF NEW ECONOMIC ORDER”
COMMUNISTS’ CLAIM
P.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. People would "readily understand the significance of the united front” between the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, and Mr Winston Churchill and President Truman in the “ concerted attack on the Communist Party,” the Wellington District Committee of the Communist Party stated this afternoon in reference to Mr Holland’s description of Communists as wreckers. The statement declared that Communists in New Zealand were not responsible for industrial un- / rest, the cause of which was the “ empty social nature of the system itself.” Communists were not wreckers but builders of a new
economic order. Mr Holland was correct when he said that the National Party had never had anything in common with the Communist Party. Communists had never supported the Nationalists because they were as far apart as the poles. There were no Communists or former Communists in the National Party, but “it may surprise Mr Holland to know that there is quite u number of former members of the National Party who, having become disillusioned with it and the wprnout social system it represents, have now joined the Communist Party, in common with many former members of the Labour Party.”
