THREE POSITIVE CASES
AUCKLAND HOSPITAL DISTRICT CHILDREN NOT PERMITTED IN MOTOR CAMPS p.A. AUCKLAND, Dec. 3. Three more positive cases of infantile paralysis and nine suspected cases have been reported in the Auckland district since Tuesday night. 1 Three new positive cases—two adults and a child —were already in the Auckland Hospital as suspects. There are now 20 positive and 15 suspected cases in hospital. Four of the positive cases are adults, and the others are children 10 years of age or under. The youngest is nine months old. Families which include children under 16 years of age will not be permitted by the Health Department to patronise motor camps within the Auckland Central health district during the coming summer holidays. The area extends from Wellsford to Mercer. The medical officer of health at Auckland, Dr L. S. Davis, said that all communal camps came under the heading of places of public assembly from which children under 16 years of age were banned under Section 76 of the Health Act as a precaution against the spread of infantile paralysis; Inquiries pourned into the office of the Automobile Association (Auckland) to-day from members who wanted to know whether they would have to cancel bookings at motor camps, and the touring manager, Mr Champtaloup, obtained a ruling from the Health Department. He said later that at present persons over 16 years of age were not affected by the restriction, although .the medical officer of health strongly advised the greatest caution even with older children.
