ADDINGTON SALE

LAMBS IN DEMAND PA CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 3. The store sheep entry at Addington today was 1937 hoggets 268 wethers, 650 ewes and lambs, a total of 2855. The demand was sound for all classes with values up to a shilling higher except for big forward hoggets, which were down to a shilling lower. Best wether hog gets made 33s 3d to 3Gs 3d; good, 30s 6d to 33s‘ medium, 27s 6d to 30s; and inferiors were down to 255. Several good pens of ewes and lambs were offered and the demand was strong with pnces a shilling higher. Best made to 33s 3d all counted, good, 26s 3d to 29s Id; and culls were down to 18s 6d. Three lines of adult wethers made 33s 6d to 37s 6d. The fat lamb entry of 482 was well below butchers’ requirements and fr f ezer s were unable to compete. Values at the openings were 8s above last week, but later eased to leave an average rise of 5s to 6s. Values: Extra prime to 51s 7d, prime, 43s 6d to 48s; good, 38s to 435, IIS, Hie "fat sheep' entry was 5500. The sale started firm but eased before taking up again and ending some shillings above last week. Over the last few pens, on the average values were fully firm on last week. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 60s Id; prime heavy, 48s to 51s, prime medium-weight, 41s to 475; ordinary and light, 30s to 40s. Extra prime hoggets, to 61s 7d; prime, 38s to 435; ordinary and light. 32s to 375. Prime heavy ewes, to 45s Id; prime medium-weight, 34s to 38s, ordinary, 29s to 335. ■ The fat cattle entry of 690 was greatly In excess of requirements. Much excellent beef was included, but values all round were back by £2. Heavy plain steers were affected more than best cows and heifers. Best beef made to 62s 6d; good, 42s 6d to 52s 6d; medium, 36s to 40s - while best cow made to 50s and secondary to 37s 6d. Values: Extra prime heavy steers, to £29s 2s 6d; prime heavy, £22 to £24; prime medium-weight, £lB to £22 10s; ordinary, £l3 to £l6. Extra prime heifers, to £2l 17s 6d; prime, £ll to £ls; ordinary and light, £7 to £lO. Extra prime cows, to £l9 17s 6d; prime cows, £9 to £l2; ordinary and light, £6 t0 There was a very heavy entry in the pork section, bidding being restricted. Values were easier by 3s to 4s on lightweights and up to 10s on heavy-weights. Choppers were in medium supply and prices were a little firmer. The bacon yarding was very heavy and there was a dragging sale. Values were down to 10s lower. Values: Light porkers made £3 17s 6d to £4 Is 6d; medium, £4 2s 6d to £4 9s 6d; heavy, £4 13s 6d to £5 4s 6d. Choppers, from £6 18s 6d to £l3 11s; light baconers, £5 7s 6d to £5 12s 6d; medium baconers, £5 15s 6d to £6 2s 6d; heavy, £6 4s 6d to £6 9s 6d; extra heavy, £6 12s 6d to £7 4s 6d.
