CATTLE PRICES LOWER F.A. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 2. There was a substantial easing in values for fat cattle at Lorneville to-day. Sheep prices, however, increased more than a shilling. There was a big yarding of fat sheep, the 1302 entered being mainly good-quality ewes and wethers. There were also a few pens of light and unfinished sorts. The sale opened a shade easier than last week, but after the first two races had been sold last week’s prices were improved upon. Quotations:—Prime heavy shorn wethers, to 645; good quality sorts, 56s to 58s 6d; medium-weights, 52s to 555; lightweights, 46s to 48s 6d; small and light hoggets, 35s to 40s; prime maiden shorn ewes. 45s to 50s; medium quality, 36s to 40s; good-quality butchers’ ewes, from 27s to 325: light-weight and over-weight sorts, 22s to 25s 6a; medium woolly wethers. 54s to 58s 6d; woolly ewes, 33s to 37s 6d; best-quality fat lambs, from 45s to 495; medium-weights, 40s to 445; light-weights, 30s to 35s 6d The largest yarding of fat cattle for some time was forward, more than half being good-quality medium and lightweight cattle. A small percentage of heavy-weight sorts and a bigger percentage than for some time of cows of medium age and inferior-quality sorts were also forward. Better-quality cattle were about 30s a head lower, mediumquality and unfinished sorts about £2 10s a head lower, and passings in the latter class were frequent.
