COMMITTEE x APPOINTED Rec. 10 p.m, NEW YORK. Dec. 2 Iraq voted “no ’ to-day when the United Nations Trusteeship Council authorised its president to appoint a committee to draw up detailed plans for governing Jerusalem. Iraq—the, only Arab member of the Council—has been expected to walk out of the meetings because the Arab States ficm threatened to boycott all United Nations proceedings on Palestine. The voting was 9 —l, with Belgium abstaining Britain voted “ yes "—the first time during the months of the United Nations debate that Britain has voted on the Palestine issue. The American Federation of Polish Jews issued a statement that it had telegraphed President Truman to-day asking him to announce that the United States will supply arms to the Jewish defence forces of Palestine should the Arabs start a war. The federation contended that “such an immediate public warning to the Arabs will prevent the peace of the world being shattered.”
