DISCUSSION IN COURT EFFECT OF WAGE INCREASE Industrial Correspondent WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. The hearing of the claims of the clothing trade workers was interrupted in the Court of Arbitration to-day for a brief consultation between Judge Tyndall, president of the court, and Mr W. Cecil Prime, employers’ representative.' “Mr Prime wants to know,” announced his Honor to the parties. “if the men of New Zealand will get more shirts if we put up the wages of the clothing trade workers.” Mr G. C. Camp, for the employers:Only at a higher price. Mr John Roberts, of Christchurch, for the workers: Well, at Christchurch at least we’ll relieve the shortage. His Honor: There does appear to be plenty of women’s clothing. Mr Roberts: That is because the margin of profit appears to be higher for women’s clpthing. I take it the opinion is that the price policy of the Government should be switched to encourage essential production.
