PROTESTS EFFECTIVE
COAL MINING IN BEAUTY SPOT N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent. Rec 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 1. The Daily Telegraph says the Government has decided to drop the proposal to commence open-cast coal workings in the grounds and park of Lyme Park, near Stockport, formerly the hopie of Lord Newton. Widespread public protests followed the announcement that this famous Cheshire beauty spot which is now the property of the National Trust, might be marred by coal‘ workings.
