TRANSFERS GRANTED

PUBLICANS' LICENCES DUNEDIN LICENSING COMMITTEE Permanent transfers of the publicans’ licences of four city hotels were granted by the Dunedin Licensing Committee at its quarterly meeting yesterday, which was attended by Messrs H. W. Bundle, S.M. (chairman). J. H. Hinton, J. Adams, A. G. Monk, and V. S. Jacobs. The transfers approved were: Waterloo Hotel, Gladys Elizabeth Crossan to William John Crossan; Victoria Hotel, Thomas Cuthbert to William Henry Howard: and Broadway Hotel, Thelma Stone to Balfour Forbes McLean. Approval of the permanent transfer of the publican’s licence of the Ocean View Hotel from Thomas Clark Muir to Albert Burrell was also granted subject to the filing of the affidavit.

Senior-sergeant D. Vaughan complained that the police sometimes could not inspect the bars of hotels after hours as the managers claimed that the licensees held the key. “Any complaints by the police will be dealt with,” said the chairman. .“ If the manager is in charge of the hotel, he should hold the key, not the licensee."
