BEAU LE HAVRE BEATS SONERI

Special to Daily Times

CHRISTCHUDCH, Nov. 30

The Canterbury Jockey Club held the second day of its Cup meeting at Riccarton yesterday in fine weather before a good attendance. The track was very firm.

Beau le Havre played with his three opponents over the closing stagea of the Churchill Stakes. He was first to break the line and led out without much pace for two furlongs. Desert Fox then joined him and a little further on A. E. Didham gave Desert Fox a kick to open up a gap of over half a dozen lengths from the favourite, with Distinction and Soneri following closely. The gap was gradually reduced round the turn till nearing the straight the leader’s advantage was not much more than two lengths.

Once in the straight Soneri moved up, heading Beau le Havre at the distance. It was a short-lived effort, however, as Beau le Havre soon drew away, beating Soneri by four lengths, while three lengths back Distinction beat Desert Fox by a neck. The time was slow, but the last half mile was done in 48 3-ssec.
