HISTORICAL COMMITTEE

The Centennial Historical Committee has been collecting material for a Taieri history. The area has been divided Into districts which have a community of interest, namely: Mosgiel, East Taieri, Allanton-Momona, Henley, Otokia, Out-ram-West Taieri, Berwick. Maungatua. These areas have set up committees to collect material for their respective histories. An Editorial Committee consists of the chairman (Mr J. C. Walker), secretary (Mr E. D. Farrant), and Mr J. P. Walls, the Rev. Mr Waldron, and Miss M. Shaw. Members of the committee have been allotted these sections of the work:— Maori history: Dr A. H. McClintock. Early exploration: Messrs G. C. Couper and R L. Fairmaid. Early settlement: North Taieri, Mr C. Findlay; Wyllie's Crossing, Mr L. Graham;. Mosgiel. Mr A. F. Quelch. Early transport: Mr E. D. Farrant. Mining; Mr T. G. Boyd. Local government: Messrs S. Riach, R. D. Rogers, and W. P. Hartstonge. Churches: Rev. A. McFarlane. Schools and agricultural societies: J. Cumberbeach. Industries and business: Messrs A. J. Souter and J. C. Walker. Outstanding men and women: Miss M. Shaw and Mrs L. Graham. Sporting and recreation: Mr W Mulrhead. Musical and cultural societies: Rev. Mr Waldron and E. D. Farrant.
