GRUELLING TENNIS
QUIST DEFEATS BRINKS
WINNER’S SUPERIOR TACTICS Rec. 8.15 p.m SYDNEY, Nov. 30. After a gruelling five-set match lasting two hours and a-half, Adrian Quist beat the American, Jim Brinks, in the final of the New South Wales Singles Tennis Championship 6—4, 6—2, 2—6, 4 —6, 6—3. Quist called the tune in
tactics throughout the match, and only Brinks’s speed and determination saved him in the early stages. Nevertheless, the American forced Quist to play his best tennis since he won the Australian title in 1940. Before the match Quist had a novocaine injection to deaden the ache of an injured stomach muscle. The Doubles final will be replayed.
