Fifteen Positive Cases in Auckland
PRECAUTIONS INTENSIFIED P.A, AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. Precautions against the spread of infantile paralysis were intensified on Saturday when the immediate closing of all schools, primary and secondary, in the North Island was announced in Wellington. The only pupils not affected by the ban are those sitting for university entrance and scholarship examinations. These examinations will still be held and will commence to-morrow. Two more positive cases of poliomyelitis were reported in Auckland on Saturday, but to-day there was only one suspected case. There are now 15 positive and six suspected cases in the Auckland hospital. One positive case is an adult and the others are children whose ages range from nine months to ten years. Both of the cases reported on Saturday were small children. One was from Hunua and the other was from the city. The Medical Officer of Health at Auckland, Dr L. S. Davis, said to-night that the position in the Auckland district could be regarded as reasonably satisfactory. 1
