Vice-Regal His Excellency, the Governor-General, attended by Flight-lieutenant Michael Cole, left Wellington for Rotorua yesterday. Ministerial The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, acting on medical advice, did not fly from Wellington to Greymouth by special plane yesterday. His complaint is not serious. Mr Fraser was to have addressed a meeting at Wallsend last night in connection with the Westland by-election. He hopes to fly to Greymouth to-day. Mr T. F. Doyle, M.L.C., was reappointed chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board at the annual meeting this week. In recognition of their outstanding service in the interests of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, life membership has been conferred upon Messrs M. Barratt (Alexandra), R. Fountain, G. E. Turner, W. A. Raffills. C. M. Greenslade, S. H. Barnes and G. Porter. Mr R. L. Dukes has been appointed choirmaster and organist to S. Mary s Church. Mornington. Mr Dukes will take up his duty in February in succession to Mr A. Pywell, who is leaving to enter St John's College, Auckland. Mr Gerald W. McDouall, of the Dunedin staff of the National Bank of New Zealand. Ltd., retired yesterday on completion of 42 years' service with the bank. At a gathering of the staff, Mr I. S Cantrell, the manager, expressed appreciation of Mr McDouall’s long service, and wished him many happy years of retirement. A presentation of a leather suitcase and a travelling rug was made to Mr and Mrs McDouall. In the land surveyors’ examination conducted by the Survey Board of New Zealand. R. W. Buchanan, E. H. King and A. J. Gillon. all of Dunedin, were among the six candidates who obtained certificates of competency. Mr D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, arrived in Dunedin yesterday and will address members of the Otago-Southland Manufacturers’ Association and other organisations on Monday night, giving impressions of the Geneva Conference.
