LIGHT TRACK WORK

NOTES FROM RICCARTON HOWE FOR JOCKEY CLUB HANDICAP Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 28. The trial grass track at Rlccarton was open this morning, but most of the work was done on the plough. Beau le Havre went twice round, at a useful pace, brushing home the last three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. A few horses were allowed to run along over a few furlongs, but there was nothing serious. The weather continues very dry. Fine Night has been scratched for the Otaio Plate. He had a foot pricked, and though he is all right now. F. Shaw deemed it unwise to race him, as he was idle for a few days. He will, however, be got ready for an engagement next week. The hard ground does not suit Red Pickle, and he may not fulfil his engagement in the Jockey Club Handicap. Wide Range, who has gone wrong in his off hind leg. will not be a starter to-morrow. Wavelock has been scratched for the New Zealand Oaks.

Mr J. R. McKenzie’s two-year-old filly. Bowling Green, has been working well, but no rider has been secured yet, so S. Barr may decide not to start her tomorrow. She looks like being good. Though Golden Amber was sore early in the week, she may be fit to run in the Pioneer Handicap, Howe has three engagements to-rflor-row, but the popular idea is that he will take part in the Jockey Club Handicap, with R. J. Mackie as his rider. Additional riding engagements .have been made as follows for Riccarton tomorrow:—W. Connor: Beau le Havre, Blue Hussar. R. J. Frame: Le Sonnet. R. J. Mackie: Howe. I. McClure: Rebel March, Chellow Dene. M. Andrews: Maryburn. D. R. Mackie: Reprimand. A. Stokes: Pimlico. N. Cavaney. Curtana. V. J. Sellars: Lucy Bian. W. F. Ellis: Fail-home. J. Taylor: Dowlair. D. Dawson: Grand Forest. The latest report concerning F. Holmes is that he is on the way to recovery from his illness.
