Mrs A. H. McLintock will leave for Hampden to-morrow. Mrs A. G. W. Dunningham left for Auckland on Wednesday morning. Mrs E. A. Duncan returned to Dunedin this week from Christchurch. Mrs H. Howes is the guest of Miss Edith Howes. Motu street, St. Clair. >Miss F. E. McConnell is the guest of Mrs R. H. Stevenson, Alton avenue. Musselburgh Rise. Mr and Mrs J. W. Ross, of Tauranga, left by car for the north on Wednesday. Dr and Mrs Tait will leave to-day for Invercargill to attend the wedding of their son. Dr Graham Tait. , Lady Sargood, accompanied by her daughters, Mrs McKillop (England) and Mrs Stewart Macpherson, has returned from a visit to Wanaka. Mrs N. Murdoch, of St. Clair, has returned from a holiday spent in Timaru and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. Tait and Miss Amy Holdgate. of Timaru, who were guests at the Sparrow—Ross wedding, are staying at the City Hotel. Mrs W. Toms (Roxburgh) is tHe guest of Mrs A. A. Frapwell, Aotea street. Anderson's Bay. for the Sparrow—Ross wedding. Mrs Edgar Penrose, of Christchurch, is the guest of Miss Sparrow, Norfolk street. St. Clair.
Mr C. J. Hobbs and Miss Joy Hobbs, of Brighton, are returning from a visit to England by the Rimutaka, about December 29.
On relinquishing her position with the firm of Messrs Arthur Barnett, Ltd., Mrs M. E. Holland was entertained by the staff of the mantle showroom on Saturday night. Miss Fogarty, on behalf of the staff, made a presentation and wished Mrs Holland every success in her new appointment.
The final party for the year of the Combined Mothers’ ClubS of the Free Kindergarten Association was held in the St. John Ambulance Hall last evening. There were about 300 persons present. Miss Olive Mercer, the retiring chairwoman of the Psychology Circle of the Otago Women's Club, was entertained on Wednesday by the club committee, with which she has been associated for a number of years. The small lounge of the
club was beautifully decorated with bowls of red and white roses. Miss Mercer was presented with a gift and a bouquet of roses. Miss M. Roberts, who has resigned from the position of secretary, was presented with a basket of roses as a token of appreciation. Mrs W. B. Taverner was the guest of honour at an afternoon given by the committee of the Civic Circle of the Otago Women’s Club on her retirement from the office of chairwoman. Miss Andrew spoke of the good work Mrs Taverner had done for the circle and the club during her term of office, and asked her to accept a book autographed by all those present as a token of appreciation. Mrs Taverner thanked the committee for the gift and for their loyalty and help at all times. At the conclusion of the monthly meeting. of the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Churches on Monday afternoon, the president, Mrs A. H. McLintock, expressed appreciation of Mrs Mitchell's inspiring services in the interests of the N.C.C. and, on behalf of all members, extended best wishes for happiness in her new home in Hastings. The Rev. L. D. C. Groves, and Mrs W. N. Benson, representing the Otago branch of the N.C.C., also paid a tribute to Mrs Mitchell’s outstanding contribution not only to the council, but to the whole church community.
