Return to Dominion With Ballet Company
A dainty member of the corps de ballet in the Borovansky Company is Miss Joan Tandy, whose parents reside in Blacks road, Dunedin.
Miss Tandy received most of her training in Wellington, where she also taught dancing for some time. Towards the end of the war she was able to obtain a long-awaited exit permit, and travelled to Australia, where she immediately began studies at theBorovansky Acamedy under Madame Borovansky, who does not tour with the company. “It is unfortunate that there is so little scope for the ballet dancer in New Zealand, Miss Tandy said in an
interview yesterday. “ There is obviously plenty of talent but, for both personal and financial reasons, many girls are unable to go overseas to further their training. It is a hard life, and girls must have a real love for dancing to continue. There is very little spare time. If you are not repairing shoes or tights, you are resting.”
Miss Tandy was thrilled to come to New Zealand with the Borovansky Ballet, as it provided an opportunity to meet relatives and friends.
