CONFERENCE SUGGESTED
TRADE UNION MOVEMENTS INTEREST IN MARSHALL PLAN N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 27. Mr Irving Brown, European representative of the American Federation of Labour, who is visiting Britain, will suggest to his headquarters that a conference of all trades union movements interested in the Marshall Plan should be called within the next two months. Before the conference is 'actually called, however, an informal approach will be made to the various organisations concerned in order to ascertain their reactions. If these are favourable, Mr Brown said, the American Federation would be very glad to convene a meeting which, it was hoped, would be held in the United States.
In an interview, Mr Brown stressed the growing interest in Europe now developing in the United States and emphasised the importance of associating the trades union movement with the Marshall Plan as soon as possible.
