RAILWAY COLLISION
FATALITY IN BRITAIN MOUNTING TOLL OF CRASHES Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 27. One person was killed and 20 were injured, five seriously, in a crash vesterday, when a train from Ilfracombe ran into the rear of a stationary train from Bournemouth. The crash occurred near a military camp, and hundreds, of -oldiers assisted in ■ the rescue work. The engine of the Ilfracombe 'rain left the rails and plunged on 'ts side and the two following coaches were derailed. The rear coach of the Bournemouth train, in which were most of the injured, overturned and was wrecked. Two other coaches were also derailed and telescoped. . Reuter’s says that 1947 has been the worst year for railway crashes m Britain since 1915. There were 87 deaths.in 1947, compared with 269,m 1915, the year in which a troop train crash at Gretna Green killed 227.
