OTAGO SWIMMING CENTRE

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING . The fortnightly meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night, the President, Mr D. F. Watson, occupying th e chair. There was a large attendance ° f Mr el Ef a H eS james referred to the honour that had been conferred upon Miss Betty Casey (swimmer) and Miss Mayzodßeid (diver), together with Mrs E. C. Isaacs as manageress and chaperone, who had been invited by the New South Wales Women’s Amateur Swimming Association to visit New South Wales and during December and January. The invitation had been formally accepted by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, and the party would[ leave Dunedin on December 17 for Sydney. An Invitation was received from the Patea Amateur Swimming Club for members of the Otago junior and intermediate team to compete at a carnival in the Waverley Baths on February 2 after the New Zealand intermediate and junior championships at Stratford. The carniv would be a combined effort by the Patea and Waverley Clubs. —It was decided to accept the invitation. The Canterbury Centre wrote agreeing to visit Dunedin for the interprovincial contest with Otago for the McKenzie Cup Oll The ai North-East Harbour Boating Club wrote agreeing to assist the centre with the Annette Kellerman Cup Three-mile Harbour Race at Macandrew Bay on February 20, in conjunction with the New Zealand championship meeting The club s facilities would be placed at the disposal of the centre. Mr Watson reported that it was expected there would be 129 competitors for the New Zealand Championships from February 18 to 21. Accommodation had been arranged for 115 of the visitors at the University hostels and 40 competitors and officials were booked at hotels.. The Toko Club was granted permission to hold its opening carnival on December 6 and the centre agreed to send a team of Dunedin swimmers to Milton for an evening carnival on January 21. . Arrangements were reported to be in hand for the despatch of a team to Balclutha on December 13. The Taieri Club advised that it was holding its annual carnival on February 7 and th 6 Dunedin Club was granted permission to hold a carnival on January 14. WATER POLO The following team was announced by the selectors—Messrs D. F. Watson, D. C Bannatyne, and D. Reid—to represent Otago in a match against H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona: W. Wallace (Dunedin), William Williams (Dunedin), Walter Williams (Dunedin), W. J. Jarvis (St. Clair). C. N. Williams (Dunedin), J. Barry (Dunedin), and K. Leckie (St. Clair). Draw for Tuesday:— A Grade. —Kiwi v. Dunedin. B Grade.—Kiwi B v. St. Clair J, Dunedin B v. St. Clair 11, Kaikorai v. St. Kilda Kiwi Club Races
