JOHN. McGLASHAN COLLEGE

BOARD OF GOVERNORS A meeting of the Board of Governors of John McGlashan College was attended by Messrs A. C. Cameron, the chairman, and T. C. Ross, J. R. Benson, C. G. Gray, J. P. Cook, N. R Macalister, W. S. Gilkison, J. F. Ross, the Rev. J. J. Cairney, Dr A. Borrie and Professor G. A. F. Knight. Mr Cameron welcomed Professor Kmgnt as a member of the board. A farewell message was sent to the board from the Rev. H. A. Mitchell,, who. has received a call to St. Andrew’s Church, Hastings, and the chairman expressed the board’s sincere appreciation of Mr Mitchell’s services over many years.

Resignations were accepted from Miss E. F. Elder, who has been in charge of the preparatory department for the last three years, and from Miss J. M. Popplewell, who for five years has been clerk of the college and commercial teacher. Mrs G. B. Way was appointed sub-matron in the place o i Miss P. McArtney, who has received a teaching appointment. It was mentioned that three'scholarships of £2O, each had been approved for day boys and nominations for these were being received. It was decided, that a committee of old collegians, convened by Dr Borrit. should consider the subject of a college blazer. The principal, Mr J. Conolly, reported that Major-general H. K. Kippenberger had consented to deliver the-address at the break-up ceremony on December 11, and that Mrs Kippenberger would present the prizes and trophies. The board decided that the college would close during the centennial celebrations of carnival week and that Balmacewen House would remain open for those boarders who wished to stay cit the college. The principal stated that a record total had been collected by the pupils for the leper fund this year. The contribution to. the aid for Britain campaign on the part of the boys was the planting of an empty section in potatoes and cabbages, all the work being done by college pupils.
